The Institute of Blood Transfusion

The Institute of Blood Transfusion (IBT) under Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences is located in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan province. It’s the only state-level research institute dedicated to transfusion medicine in China. It’s specialized in the research of transfusion medicine. Its administrative services, education and training of transfusion medicine provides information services and technical support for guaranteeing blood safety, build a national first aid system, advance transfusion science and technology and popularize transfusion knowledge, to contribute to the development of transfusion medicine in China.


As the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences launches the Medicine & Health Science and Technology Innovation Program which has been included in Outline for the Health China 2030 Program, the IBT is ready to implement all the research projects it leads. To enrich the research team and expand the human resources pool for its future development, the IBT plans to recruit more postdoctoral researchers from home and abroad this year for research projects under the Medicine & Health Science and Technology Innovation Program and entrust the postdoctoral research station of Peking Union Medical College with their training. II. Remuneration

i. Basic salary: RMB170,000 per year, with bonus for outstanding performance.

ii. Other benefits: The same as our employees in the same position.

iii. Eligible doctoral researchers can participate in the assessment for deputy senior professional and technical qualifications organized by the National Health and Family Planning Commission.


III. Recruitment Process

ii. Interview and assessment: Candidates selected by each supervisor shall participate in the interview and assessment organized by the IBT Academic Affairs Committee to decide the final list.

iii. Physical examination and human resources formalities: Candidates who pass the physical examination shall go through approval and human resources formalities.

Appendix: About the Supervisors


Feng MA: Male, born in November 1961. He obtained the Ph.D. in Medicine from the Tokyo University, Japan and is now a doctoral supervisor and researcher at Peking Union Medical College. Ma has been elected into the “100 Overseas High-level Talents Program” (now “1,000 Overseas High-level Talents Program”) of Sichuan, a “PUMC scholar” specially hired by the Academy, a leader of the PUMC Innovation Team, and won the sponsorship of the Human Resources and Social Security Ministry for returned overseas talents in 2011. He’s now deputy head of the IBT for scientific research, PI of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Research Platform, and chief expert of the Major Collaborative Innovation Project under the Medicine & Health Science and Technology Innovation Program.


Limin CHEN: Male, born in February 1967. He obtained the Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Toronto, Canada and used to work as a postdoctoral researcher and a visiting scholar at Harvard University and Merck. He’s now a doctoral supervisor and researcher of Peking Union Medical College, a “PUMC scholar” specially hired by the Academy, one of the “100 Overseas High-level Talents Program” (now “1,000 Overseas High-level Talents Program”) of Sichuan, an expert specially hired by Sichuan, and an academic and technology leader of Sichuan Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission. He currently serves as the PI of the IBT Transfusion-Transmitted Diseases Research Platform, director of Sichuan Key Medical Lab for Transfusion-Transmitted Diseases Research and chief expert of the “Technologies and Strategies to Reduce China’s Residual Risk of Transfusion-Transmitted Diseases” project under the Medicine & Health Science and Technology Innovation Program.


Zhong LIU: Male, born in January 1969. He obtained the Ph.D. in Medicine from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and is now a chief technician, a doctoral supervisor at Peking Union Medical College, a “PUMC scholar” specially hired by the Academy, and a middle-aged expert with outstanding contribution recognized by Sichuan Provincial Health Department. He currently serves as the deputy head of the IBT, director of the PUMC Transfusion Medicine Department, a member of APEC Blood Safety Council, an AABB member, an ISBT member, and chief expert of the collaborative innovation team projects under the Medicine & Health Science and Technology Innovation Program.
