President Xuetao Cao Meets with Elsevier Global President Philippe Terheggen

President Xuetao Cao extended a warm welcome to Dr. Philippe Terheggen on behalf of CAMS&PUMC. He stated that as the largest scientific literature supplier in the world, Elsevier Group has played a positive role in improving efficiency of global researchers and boosting the development of medical science and technology. Over the years, CAMS&PUMC has been cooperating closely with Elsevier, jointly convened seminars with Cell Press and Lancet Publishing Group under Elsevier on the basis of traditional cooperation in information sharing and data mining, and established a platform for medical researchers to communicate and exchange with international top-level scholars, playing a positive role in promoting the development of Chinese medical science.

President Xuetao Cao also made a brief introduction to the Medicine and Healthcare Innovation Program of Chinese Academy of Medical Science and the “Double First-rate” Program of CAMS&PUMC. He pointed out that CAMS&PUMC was developing rapidly and vigorously pushing forward the building of the core base of the national medical science and technology innovation system, kept optimizing scientific research management and disciplinary layout, and promoted resource integration, so as to continuously improve scientific and technological innovation capacity and international influence of CAMS&PUMC. The year of 2017 marked the 100th anniversary of PUMC. He hoped Philippe Terheggen’s revisit would further push forward in-depth cooperation between Elsevier and CAMS&PUMC, and that Elsevier and CAMS&PUMC could carry out “customized” cooperation on the basis of the development demands of CAMS&PUMC, such as scientific research, clinical staff training, scientific capacity evaluation, and future development trend analysis, so as to jointly provide information and intelligence support for China’s medical and health science and technology innovation.

According to Philippe Terheggen, CAMS&PUMC was one of Elsevier’s important partners in China. Over the years, CAMS&PUMC has grown rapidly and made new achievements in an all-around way. He said that Elsevier was at a new stage of rapid development and service innovation, and it would utilize its advantageous resources to provide services to satisfy different demands in a targeted manner. In addition, Elsevier has set up Elsevier Foundation to provide financial support for libraries and researchers across the world. Philippe Terheggen also expressed his hope for establishing a closer strategic partnership between Elsevier and CAMS&PUMC so as to jointly carry out more individualized and deeper cooperation in more fields.
