CAMS Signs MOU with Wellcome Trust


On September 24, 2017, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences/Peking Union Medical College (CAMS&PUMC) held a ceremony of signing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cooperation between Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and Wellcome Trust. President Xuetao Cao and Wellcome Trust Director Jeremy Farrar attended the ceremony. Also present at the ceremony were Vice President Zhongwei Zheng, Vice President Xue Zhang, Research Administration Department Director Jianwei Wang and International Cooperation Department Deputy Director Chen Wu, and others.



Cao, first of all, thanked Jeremy Farrar for his emphasis on and support to the cooperation between Wellcome Trust and CAMS&PUMC, and then introduced the development of CAMS&PUMC, made suggestions on the potential fields and ways of cooperation, and hoped that the two sides carry out multifaceted cooperation so as to make contributions to the development of China’s medical and healthcare services.


Jeremy Farrar first of all thanked Cao’s invitation, and then gave an overview introduction to Wellcome Trust, made discussions with Cao on how to enhance further cooperation between the two sides. He proposed to jointly bilateral academic seminars and set up a cooperative platform so as to promote cooperation and exchanges between young teachers and researchers, and make the mutual cooperation reach a new level and make contributions to meeting the challenges of human health. The signing of the MOU laid a foundation for deepening operational and educational cooperation between the two sides and is of great significance.




The next day, Jeremy Farrar, accompanied by Xuetao Cao and Xue Zhang, went to the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) to meet and discuss with NHFPC Vice Minister Li Cui.
